Okay, this challenge is strictly for those with time and emotional fortitude for it. But if you do it, I think it could be a lot of fun.
You know how we're stuck? How we're missing plans? How Dishoom seems a world away?
Why not go there?
This has been brewing a while. Jo posted about doing fave Dishoom dishes as displacement activity. I mentioned this thread from Naomi Alderman about really extravagant fantasy travel with cuisine:
...and I twote about chilled red wine at our previous cocktail hour, sending Katy into a memory spiral of undergraduate student travel.
All of these just delighted me with their determination to get away from wherever you are right now. (It's your living room, isn't it? Or your kitchen? Bonus points for office/bedroom variations. Slight minus for the loo.) So, your challenge if/when you have time and energy: tell us about what you're eating/drinking/creating that's taking you somewhere else. Maybe just up the road (but it's closed). Maybe long ago, and far away (and perhaps never to be revisited). Maybe just where you want to be, or would have been, or are damn well going to go after this madness subsides (*thumps table*, YEAH YOU WILL). Maybe an impossible place with rainbow cake and unicorn salad. I don't know. Elsewhere but here, is the thing.
I've got a date with some French cider and rillettes, in a few days. I have a book about flanning around I might manage to open. I might even try for a soundtrack. How about you?

I'm in! No idea where we'll go but will start planning a trip and update.
ReplyDeleteHurrah! I really fancy seeing some other people's fantasy trips out. Glad to hear you've got started.
DeleteThis is a lovely idea. I'll get out my map and see where we might go.
ReplyDeleteHurrah! I was really hoping a few people would play.
DeleteI’m in too!! I start thinking where I want to go!
ReplyDeleteWonderful. Have fun planning!
DeleteThink this is the night for breaking the lamb chops out of the freezer and trying to recreate the lamb-and-tapenade dish I had one glorious sunny day near the Canal du Midi. I have the lavender syrup for the kir, too- first lavender one...
