Breaking Lockdown for a Birthday

SPOILER ALERT: down here there’s a picture of Sorriso the Turtle in her pink quarantine house!

The end of lockdown has begun. People are in streets again. Shops are open again. All is weird as it never was: most of people wear masks and respect distances and queues but you can feel that we needed to be among others. I’m still fearful and clumsy but I’ve learned wearing a mask on my face all day. In fact I went to work this week for three days; unfortunately not in my Archives. I helped others colleagues with masks distribution to citizens.
This week was full and intense. Sorriso was admitted to vet clinic; she was there for seven days. On Friday she came back home but we need to go on with treatments.
Last but not least it’s Danilo’s (one of my two brothers) birthday on Tuesday. Since the lockdown is loosening, yesterday all family was reunited and celebrated him with a dinner all together (PS we were only six).
The menu we had decided was simple: a lot of entrees, pasta and cake. I’m sorry I didn’t take many pictures of dishes.
My mother made pasta (traditional lasagne: ragout with beef and pork mince and béchamel) and cake (my mum is the queen of tiramisu).

I was in charge of entrees: six different ones.

1. Hummus: chickpeas, sesame seeds, lemon, oil
2. Guacamole: avocados, cherry tomatoes, red onion, tabasco, lemon, oil
3. Pork nibbles marinated with honey, beer and fresh herbs (rosemary, sage, bay, thyme)
4. Muffins with onions
5. Asparagus rolls with ham, mozzarella and hazelnuts
6. Warm phyllo tarts with fresh salmon, cream, spring onions.

It wasn’t the party we had had in mind but it was great!

Here we are: Sorriso!

  1. Wow. It's really good to hear things are changing with you; I hope it gets easier. But I'm glad you could be together for the birthday - that looks like such a tiramisu! Lovely snacks too.

I hope Sorriso is doing better; and I'm glad you posted a photo.

  3. Lovely to see Sorriso! I hope she continues to improve.

I love tiramisu and that one looks splendid. I lived with an Italian (and a Spaniard, two Germans, a Scot and an Irish girl) while doing my archive degree and she used to make us the most delicious tiramisu! Fond memories.
