Welcome to Monday. How are you doing?
I personally have been bleary for several days, with much comedic dropping of stuff in multiple messy directions and a general sense I'm not really *here* a lot of the time. Even without booze. I'm sure it's fine and my brain will come back online at some point.
But maybe I need something else to think about? Or maybe I've been thinking about this all along - as a lot of you have? It's not that we're short of food, exactly. But it's also not like everything we need is immediately to hand, or five minutes away. Or even orderable, with a month's notice, in some cases. So there's a fair amount we are having to wangle. There is substitution going on in many kitchens. Tell us yours. Did it work? Are you like my aunt, who tried to make her usual bread with gram flour, with disastrously predictable consequences?
Also under the #ConfinedSubstitutions umbrella, something else we've seen a bit of - finding ways to celebrate things that would usually have meant Going Out Somewhere Nice. Whether it's date night or birthday parties for three, we'd love to hear from you.

I did consider trying gram flour for bread. Refrained in the end, and quite pleased about it.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, my technique for getting round shortages is to order a really large quantity online (yeast, flour). Whatever it was then IMMEDIATELY appears in the local shops. Srsly, is like a new, irritating superpower.
