It's Saturday night, it's Confined Cocktails!
Now, we know the true meaning of Confined Cocktails is threefold, right? Firstly, it's a brake on spending the whole of lockdown at the bottom of a bottle of Malibu. Secondly, it's about the cocktails, for we are a blog of people who enjoy good things to eat and drink. But thirdly, it's about a moment of togetherness in a world of apartness. Which is why all drinks are welcome, including water if that's what you need right now.
Honestly, the fourth meaning of Confined Cocktails (for me) is to mark the passing of time. Which is kind of hard to spot otherwise. But it's definitely the weekend now. It is the fifth weekend of Confined Kitchen. It is the 18 April, which is precisely one month since Liz and I first blogged on here. So it's a pretty significant date.
Like my impulse-bought peonies, which have been radically trimmed since purchase as the vase I put them in promptly fell apart in my hands, covering my kitchen floor in water and flower food (is that toxic to mice?? I can only hope), we may not be quite at our peak elegance and lofty freedom, but we're giving it a good go and being a bit cheerful when we can.
I'm drinking kir tonight. Partly because I needed white wine for a recipe (to be blogged). Partly because I have a pre-Brexit stockpile of cassis that isn't going down fast enough. And partly because this is a significant date for me. I was supposed to be heading to Paris tomorrow, for a fortnight's secondment. I've no idea if I can do that in future. It was hard to schedule even before all this. I am sad about missing it.But there are consolations, and kir is one of them. So are you lot. Thanks for sticking with us for a month.
On a practical note, we have some oddity on the #ConfinedCocktails hashtag at the moment - some kind of silent censorship seems to be at play and most of us can only see our own tweets on it. Hmm. But we still have the #ConfinedKitchen hashtag. We still have the list (remember, if you're not on it and want to be included, @tenisonpurple is your list-owning contact).
I hope you'll raise a glass here, on twitter or anywhere else you happen to be. To us, and to getting through! Salut mes chers!
