Comfort, comfort, comfort

Pasta e ceci - Pasta and chickpeas

Two hard days.
My twenty years old aquatic turtle Sorriso isn't fine. She has a bacterial infection. I found out it yesterday and this morning I went to vet. In next days I treat her with some stuff and she also needs some injections. I'll make it! Me!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I needed comfort. A comfort food: simple, healthy and good! Perfect for an autumn/winter day too. I don't know why but after a winter that was like spring (14/15° at Christmas, 20° in February) these first days of spring are cold and it's snowing somewhere in center Italy. It's a crazy world.

No photos cause pasta e ceci is a very simple recipe.
I usually use dried chickpeas so I had to soak them in a bowl of cold water all night long.
You need few other ingredients:
  • an half onion
  • a clove of garlic
  • one medium size carrot
  • one medium size potato
  • oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • celery and rosemary are perfect too but I hadn't.
Chop onion, garlic, carrot and potato and let them brown in a large heavy pot (see the photo).
Drain the chickpeas, add them to other ingredients and stir. Add cold water and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until chickpeas are soft.
Done!
I blended and I let some chickpeas unblended (does this word exist???). I added little pasta and a lot of black pepper.
Two portions: yesterday dinner and today lunch.

Wonderful, warm, lovable.
Me and Sorriso feel little better now.
