The trouble with being used to things moving at a glacial pace due to COVID restrictions and/or retirement inclination is that when things suddenly move quickly, it's really disorientating and not a little disconcerting. Such has been this week.
To make this a legitimate kitchen blog post, first the food. It was our 29th wedding anniversary last Sunday. I'm not quite sure where that time went, but I made lasagne just because I hadn't done so for a while and it always goes down well. I didn't have chicken livers - they always give a depth of flavour, but we just did without. Anyway, pics or it didn't happen so here's the lasagne as evidence. Not the prettiest pic in the world, but the lasagne tasted good and so much leftovers!
Anyway, apart from that I got an unexpected call from my old boss last week who wanted to pick my brains because of some organizational changes. It ended up with her spontaneously offering me a job back in my old department, but as manager to the team I used to work in before I took early retirement. To say I was flummoxed is an understatement and I replied somewhat incoherently, but after some thought and discussion with the husband I've said yes. As I mentioned in a post late last year I've been getting a bit stir crazy because having taken retirement, COVID meant we couldn't do any of the things we'd intended and even with more relaxed restrictions coming in, it will be some time yet before we can put major travel plans into operation. So I thought why not. It's only until Christmas initially as it's backfilling and I can work from home which is fine because the office is a 90 minute drive away now and I don't really drive and it's over a mountain range so it's not a happy commute. So we'll see how things go over the next 6 months.
So it's been a bit of a whiplash week as the job offer came out of the blue and here I am a week later getting ready to start tomorrow - gulp. Part of me is excited about the idea of some brain stimulation and the other part of me is running around in circles like a small yappy dog thinking what the hell am I doing? We'll see which part is in charge by the end of the week!
I'm still contemplating how to address the rest of the #ConfinedAtoZchallenge, but it may be on the back burner for a bit while I get my head back in work mode. For now, I hope everyone is doing well. :)
Wow! This is amazing news. I hope it's a good 7 months of brain work and you're able to put it away and do the things you'd planned when things are genuinely open again.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised you're not planning a lot of complex cooking for the coming weeks. Good luck with working from home all of a sudden!
Congratulations on the new/old job!
ReplyDeleteWow! Good luck with it :) (Keep us posted if you can, even if there's no 'legitimate kitchen blog' content at hand.)
