Your Mission: Confined Cookalong

Hello all. I hope you're doing okay. But, if you're one of many of us participating in what I think is some kind of international wobble at All the Everything, that's okay. We have a plan to get us through tomorrow, at least. It is: #ConfinedCookalong!

The first rule of #ConfinedCookalong is, of course, that there are no rules. This is just a chance to bake something cheering, in the knowledge that some other people are also doing that. And that it's a proper excuse to bake, if you need an excuse. Anything that follows is much more suggestion than requirement - drop by and say hello even if that's all you feel like doing.

If you want some more specific shape to your #ConfinedCookalong, here goes:

1. Brownies or blondies is the theme, though not compulsory.

2. I'm starting about 3.30, if you'd like to synch. But it'll take a while, so join us when you can/want/get home.

3. If you tweet, say hello on the #ConfinedCookalong hashtag, and maybe share your recipe, or your flavourings. Photos welcome (though not compulsory, obvs. I might stop saying this now, but it goes for all that follows). Or do it below, if you don't tweet. Maybe make yourself a mug of something as the starting point of your leisurely bake.

4. If you're cooking along with some in-person company and they don't mind being introduced, introduce them too!

5. Process updates (#ConfinedCookalong hashtagged too please - that way we can use twitter for pure cookalong updates, not the rest of the world). As many/few as you like. How many bowls? How much flour on the worktop? (...on the floor...) Fancy Gadgets or cobbled together expedients? Any #ConfinedSubstitutions forced by circumstances, preference, health requirements, or remaining #ArchivedIngredients you might as well chuck in?

6. Process updates 2: the waiting. At least we're not making loaf cake, but brownies aren't exactly instant bakes. All the recipes I'm considering (I am playing dangerously without making a final choice yet) say you have to cool them a while too even after cooking them. I am not good at waiting. Maybe make another mug of something. Maybe natter with other waiters. Maybe go for a lovely healthy walk. (I definitely won't be doing this.)

7. What I can only think of naming currently as the money shot. Oh no. Anyway: the proof of the pudding, the eating. Report back! Good, bad, messy, classy, devoured, piled up for tomorrow? Tell us! Reflective practice and lessons learned? Sure, this is serious business! Want to post a video of yourself delightedly scoffing your confection? Feel free! (I will definitely not be doing this either.)

8. Push on through to #ConfinedCocktails?

I suppose there is a rule for #ConfinedCookalong: it's to enjoy yourself, and go easy. This is not a bake off. It's all about the company, virtual though it may be. I'm really looking forward to joining you.
