I enjoyed my taste of freedom. Look! A Bath bun in the Pump Room (which wasn't actually empty, they just fill from one end and I was newly arrived). So civilised! So well-managed! Trying so hard to keep everything safe and solvent! So nice to be out.
As I was on the train home, it was announced that London is now on watch, for soaring cases, insofar as anyone can tell with the limited testing available. And that a whole swathe of other places are ahead of us into restrictions. So I think it's fair to say that there will be no more gadding about for a while. Cocktail hour at 7 on twitter, as per. I think we need it.
Thank you to Katie for suggesting a couple of group activities for the colder, grimmer months. A bakealong, perhaps - if anyone would like to suggest a reasonably accessible recipe we could try/share/collaborate on? My baking is strictly scones and loaf cakes level, but I am willing to learn. (Any suggestions need to be capable of happening without nuts or legumes, for various dietary needs, so probably not one single recipe.)
ETA: We are going for brownies/blondies, recipe to suit your tastes/allergies/everything. Potentially on the afternoon of 10 or 17 October - please comment if you'd like to join us and/or can't make those.
And also, something that needs a more inclusive hashtag than #ConfinedChristmas - #FestiveConfinement? #ConfinedCelebrations? Anyway, as we get towards all the big events of the coming season, general encouragement to share traditions/fave recipes swaps etc. Anything to make life a bit more chirpy. (On which note, if anyone on here isn't aware of the loveliness that is Yay Advent, and is in a position to buy/make 24 tiny presents for someone random, I think it's still open for submissions. I feel like December presents may be even more needed this year.)
I was strictly thinking scones or loaf cakes, tbh. Some kind of basic recipe that can be done as-is, or tarted up (or substituted) as the circumstances or whims dictate. I'll have a think about what from my collection would work, but am very open to suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI think we're going brownies/blondies for a first go, but I am very up for other options. Quite fancy an official Scone and Cup of Tea sometime early next year when we're looking ahead to spring. (Oh man, I can't believe I'm just assuming that kind of timescale, but practically, I am.)
DeleteGood stuff. I shall have finally to try out mum's brownie recipe. She makes them so well I've never bothered before. Now, all I have to do is find it...
DeleteReader, the recipe is -- and I know you'll be surprised -- in my recipe book.
