Looking back at this week, it's definitely summer, and we're not cooking as much. Or it's half-term and half of us are even busier. Or it's the end of our tenth full week in lockdown - this is weekend 11 coming up - and we're just not blogging as much. Except me, because I still blather on, and will continue to do so because I like my kitchen, and talking about it. And you're welcome to keep right on too, as and when you fancy. It's not as if I, or this blog, are going anywhere for quiiiiite a while still.
But I do get less enthused about cooking in the heat too, so I'm submitting three super-quick puddings for hot days and fruit flavours. Sort of vague gestures at vitamins, too.
Take a peach or nectarine, slice it, pour Marsala over, leave as long as you can bear. Sugar if it's a disappointing fruit, but it probably doesn't need it. (Also works with sweet wines of many kinds, or the odd liqueur leftover from other recipes/celebrations past.)
Or, take some strawberries, some sugar and some gin, slice the strawbs and soak them for a day or so.
If I'm honest, this is more a drink than a pudding, especially if you leave the berries in the booze for several days. But their bleached leftovers are still pretty nice as extra drink garnish,
And finally... take some grapes. Freeze them. Eat them. Seriously - especially with sweet summer grapes, they turn into tiny ice lollies of joy. Especially good when it's over 25 degrees and you're right off the concept of chocolate. (Strange, but true, at least for me.)
Merry eating, happy hot days, keep sane and safe and connected. (Will be on twitter at 7 tomorrow for anyone who's indoors, still!)
Oh these all look lovely. Summer puds are so lovely. We made some bread this week that didn't turn out quite as expected, so I'm contemplating making summer pudding with it. I will report back if it comes to pass.
ReplyDeleteThey are very nice for quickie light-touch things when you just can't be doing.
DeleteInterested in your bread unexpectedness!
Re the bread, we decided to make a plain toasting loaf in a loaf tin to ring the changes from the normal sour dough. It just didn't rise very much. It tastes okay, but it isn't browning well in the toaster, which is a bit of a bummer when it's supposed to be a toasting loaf! So I'm plotting alternative uses (I just haven't told himself yet! :)
DeleteThese look good and I have everything bar the grapes! Also a mango that is very ripe so I ought to eat!
ReplyDeleteI think I've just lacked motivation for cooking, for blogging, for life tbh and so food has happened but it's not be exciting... Until I made focaccia that is!!
We had peaches yesterday but no suitable booze to soak them them in. They were still tasty with honey yoghurt though.
