I realise that this is not in the #ConfinedKitchen spirit, but oh my word, I had to report how amazing it is to eat something you haven't cooked. I love cooking, I adore food, lots of my spare time is spent reading recipe books, but I have not eaten out since a parental birthday on the 6th of March. Local eateries, closed since mid-March, have now realised we are in it for the long-term and have begun reinventing themselves as takeaway and delivery outlets. In the name of supporting local business (virtuous) I ordered dinner from our favourite family Italian. Great excitment ensued, the children were almost delirious with the thought that 'other food' would be appearing. I should have been offended (75 dinners and counting, twitch) but was equally full of glee.
Joy ensued. On time, piping hot, properly laden with salt and cheese in a way that home cooking cannot possibly emulate, it was delicious.
It was expensive, though, especially with both children eating adult portions. Still, we are lucky to have a wide choice opening up before us - Thai, Indian, Turkish, burger, sunday lunch. With returning to work looking increasingly remote, this is looking like the touch of reality for the next little while.

75 dinners... good grief. I'm not surprised you're excited. This severely makes me want pizza. It's mostly chains near me and they are still shut, though I can fetch my own extremely costly sushi with a 3 mile round trip if I want (seriously considering it, it's delicious).
ReplyDeleteWe have ordered burger and chips to be delivered tonight, and I am unreasonably excited!
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, I and my friend went to a restaurant to take our dinner away at home: fish fry. I’m so excited too!
ReplyDeleteBut I realized that I‘m not ready to eat in a restaurant or in a cafe. I’m still a little phobic.
