I'm not cocktailing tonight, although there will of course be #ConfinedCocktails (hashtag yourself #ConfinedKitchen since twitter does not allow Saturday night cocktails to speak their name, alas).
Not cocktailing? Horror!
Nah, I've had a better offer. I needed red wine, for a recipe coming this way soon, and I opened the first of my Supporting Local Business home wine delivery (free in London if you buy a case; I got a half case and it was a fiver to deliver). It's a light red that they advise serving chilled. It's really, really nice. Yes, chilled.
I like this. I like trying new things that I'd never have come across without lockdown. From a list of available local businesses from my ward councillor, who's trying to ensure we all get fed but also that people don't go bust if he can avoid it. I like that my dad has followed up my tip and in the first flicker of a new thing that's interested him since lockdown is seriously thinking of buying their rainbow selection - a bit above my budget but what the hell, he's dealing with lockdown, cancer and mum's (mild but still) dementia so he can drink a £20 bottle of green wine if he wants.
I even like that the wine choices are very restricted. You'd think I'd be done with lack of choice, given our current confinements. But when everything comes with a list or a delivery notification, and everything has to be blocked out in advance having someone send me their cheapest 6 bottle option and discovering that includes cold red wine that I'd never have picked otherwise? Is fun.
Is anyone else basically done with planning and scheduling the same tedious choices? I am so done.
Hope you're staying saner than me. Or at least slightly sane (I think I'm still that). Make good choices where you can, and have fun where you can. My motto for this week, at least.

I didn't have a picture of the wine in time to schedule this post, so you working desk flapped down for the weekend, with staggering flowers, from another no-choice delivery |

The flowers are gorgeous, and I am extremely interested in the wine delivery - I've also just been paid, so...
ReplyDeleteI have a first-delivery-is-free voucher for the flowers if you want it - you have to sign up with them for weekly deliveries but can opt out of as many as you want, and cancel obviously. They've been remarkably cheering.
Delete*Almost* as much as the wine, though the wine definitely more so.
The wine sounds v interesting but if I bit it'll probably be from work... Maybe I should say that to Pete, I want a random half case max price x?
ReplyDeleteYes, that should be fun if he'll do it. Just the opportunity for a little bit of serendipity instead of doing it all yourself. And it's not like work would sell you bad stuff!
DeletePurty flowers! Gosh chilled red wine makes me think of sitting on a patio somewhere in the Loire Valley. Sigh - we will get back to that, but in the meantime, I can stick some red wine in the fridge and pretend. Glad you are still keeping slightly sane! :)
ReplyDeleteThey really are pretty. I wish I had the kind of lifestyle where a weekly flowers delivery was doable in normal times, but while I'm at home and still on full pay I am planning to spend a chunk of holiday refund on them. They make me so happy every time I look at them!
DeleteI really liked the Naomi Alderman idea in my last post - an Anywhere But Here challenge where we all go on fantasy holidays with a bit of food and/or wine for company is something I'd really love people to write about.
