This one is easy and fills children effectively. In quantity it will render small children inert - although the difference is rather less noticeable with a college age son and teenage daughter:
- 110g short grain pudding rice
- 40g sugar
- 60g butter
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1.2 l milk (semi-skimmed works OK, 50/50 whole milk and cream works magnificently).
- Put all the ingredients in the bowl of a slow cooker and put the lid on.
- Cook on high for 2 hours, stir, give it another 2 hours.
- Done.
- Leave the lid cracked for the last half hour if you want skin in top.
- The longer you leave it the gooier it gets. Some people think this is bad.
- Serve with a teaspoon of jam.
