Slow Cooker Rice Pudding

This one is easy and fills children effectively. In quantity it will render small children inert - although the difference is rather less noticeable with a college age son and teenage daughter:
  • 110g short grain pudding rice
  • 40g sugar
  • 60g butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1.2 l milk (semi-skimmed works OK, 50/50 whole milk and cream works magnificently).
  1. Put all the ingredients in the bowl of a slow cooker and put the lid on.
  2. Cook on high for 2 hours, stir, give it another 2 hours. 
  3. Done.
  4. Leave the lid cracked for the last half hour if you want skin in top.
  5. The longer you leave it the gooier it gets. Some people think this is bad.
  6. Serve with a teaspoon of jam.
